I used stock muzzle flash effects tracked onto the gun and tracked a particle effect onto the wand to make it glow. For the wand and rainbow bit I masked a path keyframes to the movement of the wand so that the rainbow revealed as the wand waved. With this chromakey I made sure that the edges of the green screened video blended smoother. I adjust the lighting to better fit the screen and added a shadow under the cat that reflected onto both the log and river. I tried to display the text in each cipher in a new creative way. In one clip the text tracks onto a building, in another a boat and one on the ground. The more complex mandala shape I modeled in Autodesk Maya. I started by recording two videos, one of me and one of my cat. I used Mocha in After Effects to track the movements of the cat video onto my head. The biggest problem I had was making sure my head was covered. The short was supposed to be spooky so I tried to create a found footage like horror video using the creepier looking characters and animations. It was hard getting the models to track properly to the footage and making sure the shadows and lighting looked right in each shot. I had fun layering the video with effects and sound. I used a drawing mannequin and created a little short about it coming to life. I animated the mannequin in Maya and exported the rig with the animations into After Effects.
