Title: Live Tracking
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For this Project I combined many aspects of past projects like tracking, particle use and masking. I used stock muzzle flash effects tracked onto the gun and tracked a particle effect onto the wand to make it glow. For the wand and rainbow bit I masked a path keyframes to the movement of the wand so that the rainbow revealed as the wand waved. This was one of my favorite projects from the class, I got to film the scenes and use my own props.
Title: Particles
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For this assignment I used the lighting particle effect. I used a combination of tracking, particles and lighting effects to create a short clip of me using magic on my cat.
Title: After Effects Intro
Media: After Effects, Toon Boom Harmony
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: The first introductory assignment to using After Effects. I familiarized myself with After Effects base move tools and key framing. I created a sample into for myself using a combination of stock images and my own animation.
Title: 30 Second Music Video
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For this assignment we used music to create a visual intriguing music video. I paired text movement to the beat of the music and video cuts in time with the music. I themed my music video around travel and connection to nature.
Title: Basic ChromaKey
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: This assignment allowed me to practice using chromakey in after effects. I took a green screen video and removed the background, then placed the chromakey video over a new background. I also had to match lighting and attempted to fix the graininess of the elephant. This assignment was practice for a later more involved one.
Title: Advanced ChromaKey
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: This assignment built off of the basic chromakey. With this chromakey I made sure that the edges of the green screened video blended smoother. I adjust the lighting to better fit the screen and added a shadow under the cat that reflected onto both the log and river. I also masked in a video of running water to help the static image look a little more life like.
Title: Text Tracking
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For the text tracking assignment I decided to create a travel themed video showcasing places around the world. I tried to display the text in each cipher in a new creative way. In one clip the text tracks onto a building, in another a boat and one on the ground. The goal was to get the text to track seamlessly with little to no jitter or movement.
Title: 3D Motion Graphic
Media: After Effects, Autodesk Maya
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: To create the 3D motion graphic I used simple shapes in after effects to create the stars and background and used the pen tool to create the clouds. The more complex mandala shape I modeled in Autodesk Maya. My idea for the motion graphic was to create some kind of peaceful meditative motion paired with relaxing music.
Title: Face replacement
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For this assignment we had to replace our face with something else like an animal head. I started by recording two videos, one of me and one of my cat. I used Mocha in After Effects to track the movements of the cat video onto my head. The biggest problem I had was making sure my head was covered. The cat’s head did not entirely cover mine and I did not take video of just the background wall so my patch job is quite noticeable.
Title: CG Short
Media: After Effects
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For this project we used 3D models and animations from Mixamo and imported them into After Effects over footage we shot. The short was supposed to be spooky so I tried to create a found footage like horror video using the creepier looking characters and animations. It was hard getting the models to track properly to the footage and making sure the shadows and lighting looked right in each shot. I had fun layering the video with effects and sound. The end result ended up being a little more silly than spooky.
Title: Side by Side
Media: After Effects, Autodesk Maya
Class: Visual Effects
Professor: Grace Street
Term: FA 25
Institution: The University of Tampa
Description: For the last project we had to take video footage of a real object and pair it with a fake cg object. I used a drawing mannequin and created a little short about it coming to life. I animated the mannequin in Maya and exported the rig with the animations into After Effects. I played with lighting, shadows and hdri’s to make the model to my footage.
