Creating Nonny & Bea

When creating the character Nonny I started with a cute patch work puppet design. This design evolved into a more cartoony looking Nonny which is the designI decided to use for the final project. I also created a version of Nonny who appears more detailed and anime like. I went with the second rendition because I thought it emulated the more kid friendly TV show style I wanted to emulate. Creating Bea’s character was easy because I had already established Nonnys visual style which I was able to match Bea’s too. Bea is much smaller than Nonny which I think adds a touch of comedic value and cuteness to their duo. I was really inspired by characters such as Snoopy and Woodstock and Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody.

When developing the Story I storyboarded out the first 6 shots which helped give me a feel for where I wanted to take the story. Because I didn’t plan on using dialogue it was important that the audience could understand the story without being told what was happening.
